Open in Google MapsĐồng Khởi Street is a historic commercial thoroughfare in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. The corridor spans approximately 630 meters between Paris Commune Square and the Saigon River waterfront. It ranks among the oldest and most prominent avenues in the city. French colonial authorities designated the route as Rue Catinat in 1865. The South Vietnamese administration renamed the avenue Tự Do Street in 1955. The city government adopted the current name, Đồng Khởi, in 1975.
Several major architectural landmarks stand along the street. The Hotel Continental opened its doors on this corridor in 1880. The Saigon Opera House faces Lam Sơn Square at the intersection with Lê Lợi Boulevard. The Grand Hotel Saigon and Hotel Majestic anchor the southern stretch near Tôn Đức Thắng Boulevard. Modern complexes like Union Square and Vincom Center occupy central blocks along the avenue. Chi Lăng Park provides green open space near the Lý Tự Trọng Street crossing.
Đồng Khởi Street functions as a premier destination for luxury shopping and dining in downtown Saigon. International fashion houses maintain flagship boutiques behind wide glass storefronts along the sidewalks. Commercial tenants include contemporary art galleries, fine jewelry showrooms, and bespoke tailors. Cafés, rooftop cocktail bars, and French bakeries operate inside restored heritage buildings. Tall shade trees line the route alongside broad stone sidewalks. The avenue maintains the highest commercial real estate values in Vietnam.
