Overview

September 23rd Park is a public park on Lê Lai Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. The linear green space runs parallel to Phạm Ngũ Lão Street. The park stretches from Quách Thị Trang Square near Bến Thành Market to Nguyễn Trãi Street. It covers approximately nine hectares of landscaped grounds in the city center.

The grounds previously served as the terminal yard for the Saigon Railway Station. Colonial authorities opened that original rail station in September 1915. City officials relocated the rail terminus to District 3 in 1983. Municipal planners then transformed the vacant rail corridor into a green public space. The park name commemorates the southern resistance uprising of September 23, 1945.

Paved walkways wind through lawns, mature rain trees, and tropical flower beds. Outdoor fitness stations provide calisthenics equipment and bodyweight machines for visitors. City residents gather on the paved plazas for jogging, aerobics, and badminton games. Small circles of players kick feathered shuttlecocks back and forth along the shaded paths. Local students frequently approach foreign travelers here to practice conversational English.

The grounds divide into three administrative zones labelled A, B, and C. Zone A connects directly to the underground Bến Thành central metro interchange station. Zone B features an underground complex housing retail shops and an international food hall. Surface stages regularly host municipal cultural events, weekend craft markets, and flower festivals.
