Cầu Ánh Sao, or the Starlight Bridge, is a pedestrian bridge in the Phú Mỹ Hưng urban area of District 7, Ho Chi Minh City. The bridge crosses the Thầy Tiêu canal. It connects the Crescent (Hồ Bán Nguyệt) area with the Canal (Kênh Đào) district. The structure is exclusively for pedestrians and sightseeing. It stands as one of Vietnam’s first modern pedestrian bridges. Construction on the bridge began in May 2009. It officially opened to the public in late 2010.
The bridge measures 170 meters in length and 8.3 meters in width. Its design features a distinctive lighting system. LED lights embedded in the bridge’s surface illuminate upwards. This creates an effect resembling a starry sky for walkers. The sides of the bridge feature a system that continuously changes colors. A water spray system also operates from the railings, creating artificial waterfalls. The lighting system uses solar panels for power, installed on the side of the bridge.
Two public squares frame the bridge at each end. One square is designed to represent a crescent moon. The other square symbolizes the sun. These spaces provide open areas for visitors near the bridge. The surrounding area includes Crescent Mall and numerous restaurants and cafes. The bridge and its adjacent parks are popular public spaces, particularly in the evenings.
The Chinese company Gao Ge designed the bridge. The Sino-Pacific company handled its construction. The project received the Arthur G. Hayden medal from the International Bridge Conference in 2013.
